Progress is impossible without change. For those who know and love Bernie & Kathy from the Red Hill Kitchen please note, they haven’t disappeared, they’ve grown up and moved to the heart of Flinders and into a fully fledged store named The Red Hill Kitchen at Flinders.
Bernie still makes his preserves with locally grown seasonal vegetables and fruits, foraging up and down the Pen making contact with groves for seasonal produce. The prolific vegetable garden, and kitchen are now separate but the store has more with vintage wares, gifts and all the lovingly made artisanal product they are famous for and that you only get from simple homemade methods. For Bernie and Kathy, the business is still the means, not the end. This is in line with a philosophy of ‘work to live, don’t live to work’, but also their desire to employ and promote culinary methods that they believe are being lost, to our detriment, in the mass production of food. It’s about the little things that make a big difference and it’s all on display when you find your way to The Red Hill Kitchen at Flinders. We take our hats off to the both of them, they inspire us deeply.
